It gave me experience in the publishing industry and standards for the working world. It was helpful learning how to navigate commuting and transportation to downtown Chicago.

Make sure you connect with those you're working with, whether it's your fellow interns, or those who work in your department or beyond! It's always helpful to get to know others who have worked there far longer than you, and can give you advice themselves.

Take a position that seems interesting even if it's not directly within the field you want to pursue! I loved this experience and learned a lot from it even though I was not planning on pursuing a career related to encyclopedias, publishing, or databases.
