What I liked

I loved that there were many programs and events for interns; there were specific tours and talks designed specifically for interns by the museum staff. Everyone working in this museum was friendly and kind to interns. Staff members were very open in sharing their experiences in this and museum work in general. It was a very engaging work environment for a person interested in museum or library studies.

What I wish was different

I am completely happy with my experience and would not change anything about it. This position was a great way to be introduced to museum work, as CHM is a large museum with many different departments to choose from.

Advice

The most important advice I can give is: make this internship into what YOU want to make it! CHM and its staff are incredibly conducive to the needs of interns. However, YOU have to seize the day. I highly encourage setting up informational interviews and getting to know the people working in the department. If you are specifically interested in librarian work, the Research and Access internship is a great foray into this field.
