Assistant Tech Designer

TECHNICAL DESIGN (Full-Time): Technical Designers translate flat sketches and trim sheets into physical garments by building detailed tech packs. They are responsible for creating detailed technical illustrations, editing paper patterns, and creating patterns from scratch when necessary. Our technical designers lead cross functional fit sessions and communicate with vendors and factories to bring our vision to life. They work closely with Apparel Designers, Merchants, and Sourcing Specialists to protect quality construction and fit for each product category.

An Assistant Technical Designer assists the Technical Designer and team, managing the technical life for their brand(s) from conception to production, to ensure the product stays true to the designer’s vision. Responsible for assisting in the day to day functions of the Design Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists/revises technical specification packages in to maintain a standard block measurements and construction requirements of each brand.
  • Input formal written and visual comments for the vendors to understand how to proceed with production.
  • Quality checks bulk production when we receive in house from overseas. 
  • Researches, measures market samples to prepare market comparison reports.
  • Can recreate and revise drawings to match spec and physical sample
  • Assists/provides technical assistance and support to vendors/contractors/customers/agents.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Files samples in an organized location for easy retrieval/reference.
  • Communicates well day to day and follows up with all emails to overseas

SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Adobe software and GERBER.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of garment construction,sewing and fitting skills
  • Strong pattern making, draping and grading skills
  • Ability to manipulate existing patterns
  • A collaborative approach to working with cross-functional partners to achieve the vision of the brand
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of pattern making and grading.
  • General knowledge of apparel production process.
  • Skill in creating technical specification packages.
  • Skill in working with computer software programs: i.e. Illustrator, Photoshop, Outlook, Word, Excel and Accurmark (GERBER)
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to various apparel categories, brands, sizes.
  • Ability to organize time effectively to meet various, strict deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.A. Apparel Design, Technical Design or Apparel Production
  • Proficient in PLM, Word, Excel, Illustrator
