Principal UX Designer, Amazon Fashion

We are seeking a visionary Principal UX Designer to define and develop stunning, elegantly usable experiences and interactions for the fashion shopping experience, to help make Amazon the go-to destination for online fashion.

Amazon Fashion is where fashion and technology meet. We are driven to explore new ways to serve our customers. The Amazon Fashion Experience and Design team’s mission is to deliver a best-in-class shopping experience for the Fashion Customer, informed with customer and business insights and needs. We are a diverse design team, with a wide range of skills in UX, Design technology and usability. We design the end-to-end CX for Amazon Fashion.


RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Principal UX Designer on our team, you will define and design the high-level experience strategy, system and design ecology for Amazon Fashion. You’ll focus on the overall architecture, UI, interaction and visual design patterns used across the Amazon Fashion experience.

You will partner with and influence our stakeholders, our design community, and contribute to a holistic strategic understanding of how the Amazon customer browses, discovers and purchases fashion.

You will collaborate with a myriad of internal teams to leverage relevant tools, technology, data and insights as they can be applied to the Amazon Smart Fashion vision as well as the opportunity to influence design patterns across the Amazon eco-system.

The responsibilities for this role include:

· Use a variety of inputs including customer observation and behavioral data to identify and define exciting new concepts, opportunities, and customer problems
· Define and develop an overall strategy for the end-to-end customer experience for the fashion shopper
· Envision cross-platform design systems and patterns in collaboration with multiple stakeholders
· Use business requirements, market research and customer feedback to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and high-level requirements for shopping experiences
· Work closely with design team members to design a cohesive design system across projects, features, and core UI/UX and tools
· Work closely with our Researchers to ensure our concepts, strategies, and solutions are informed and validated by our customers and embedded throughout the product development lifecycle
· Develop and build relationships across teams and disciplines to promote collaboration and efficiency
· Champion concepts and ideas to diverse groups of developers, category owners, and executives in ad-hoc and formal presentation
· Stay on the cutting edge of what’s new in technology and user experience (within and outside Amazon), identifying opportunities to experiment with the application of new technologies and interaction patterns to customer problems
· Mentor and coach other designers to raise the bar for UX design and help individuals further their professional growth
· Partner with innovation and concept labs to lead R&D efforts within Amazon Fashion design

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· At least 8 years experience in UX design, with at least 2 years designing consumer experiences (web, mobile, device, software, or other media)
· 3+ years of experience as a lead/senior UX or Product Designer, or a UX or Product Design director
· Experience designing large-scale systems and applications
· Fluency in best practices for mobile and web information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques
· Proficiency with design tools (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, Axure)
· Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills
· Experience leading projects in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team including designers, web developers, writers, product managers, and software developers.
· Experience in a highly agile/scrum environment
· Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or related field or equivalent professional experience
· A strong portfolio of innovative design work that demonstrates proficiency in interaction and visual design
· Desire to work in a start-up style environment, where iteration is encouraged
· Fluent in English with a record of presenting to and influencing senior management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience designing customer facing retail web
· Experience working on a collaborative team, publicly white-boarding, and working directly with developers for implementation of designs
· Ability to work gracefully and have a bias for action in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment
· Good humor, courtesy and ability to build rapport with stakeholders, designers, developers and leaders
· Capacity to own and drive the design process by independently defining requirements, scoping projects and prioritizing tasks
· Talent for crafting imaginative and innovative design solutions while maintaining user expectations through pattern consistency and interaction harmony
· Ability to demonstrate designs with functional prototypes in HTML/CSS, Flinto, Axure, etc. and create conceptual video sequences in After Effects
· Comprehensive understanding of the current state of web and mobile technology and best practices
· Strong practical knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, usability principles, web-based information architecture and design—understand accepted UX process standards well enough to be entitled to selectively abandon them
· Demonstrated strong visual design expertise with a masterful understanding of color theory, typography and an ability to produce fresh, simple, elegant layouts interactions and iconography
