Special Events Volunteer Intern

IRA Special Events is in need of a volunteer intern whose primary focus with be assisting with The Chef’s Table, a major fundraising event for the association. The volunteer will be assisting with various tasks related to the planning of the event with an emphasis on the silent auction. This is an exciting opportunity to gain real-world experience in large scale event planning. This is a part time, unpaid internship. Must be able to work a minimum of two to three full days each week. Hours will vary during events. Class credit is available pending school approval.

Event Description:

The Chef’s Table: November 4, Morgan MFG is an annual gala that celebrates and honors the foodservice industry while raising funds that benefit the IRA Educational Foundation. Funds from The Chef’s Table support the student culinary program, Prostart, and scholarships for our future industry stars to assist them with their post-secondary education.

Job Responsibilities:

* Assist in managing the operation of all phases, including pre-event and on-site.
* Administrative duties include, but are not limited to, Memo Writing, Letter Writing, Scheduling, Filing, Faxing, Xeroxing, Phone Calls, Assigned Daily Projects and Special Projects.
* Data entry and evaluation.
* Represent the Illinois Restaurant Association with pride, integrity, and dedication.
* Perform other duties or work on other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
* Ability to work in fast paced, collaborative environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher) and database management.
* Knowledge of mail merge in Microsoft Office.
* Professional demeanor.
* Ability to work independently.
* Strong interpersonal skills and judgment.
* Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to excellence.
* Will be required to work the week/weekend of the event.
