Local Investigative Journalist and News Reporter

We're looking for someone who is ready to conduct investigative journalism for WilmetteWatch.com as well as help develop and write stories about local emerging social justice and good government issues. Currently, there are stories in the pipeline around racial justice, government transparency, affordable housing, and more. We're currently pursuing reports of Wilmette Schools being among the highest incidences of placing young school children into solitary padded cells, sometimes called "seclusion rooms."

These reports are published on the Wilmette Watch site, though on occasion may be used for material on the justice team site.

All of the work should be able to be performed remotely. This is an unpaid volunteer internship and Wilmette Justice Team consists solely of unpaid community volunteer activists.

Learning objectives (experience you can expect to gain from this internship):
  • How to conduct real world investigative journalism
  • AP Stylebook guidelines
  • How to issue Freedom of Information Act requests
  • How municipal governments and law function
