2021 Reference Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY STATEMENT: Under the guidance of a mentor, the Reference Intern would be trained to respond to general reference inquiries on military history of a broad scope, as well as on military genealogy. Intern would also help in running the Reference Desk.
INTENDED PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT: This intern will help to ensure timely response to reference inquiries and conduct research on special projects as they arise.
ESSENTIAL POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent oral and written communications skills with emphasis on clear writing of historical matters for lay person audience
- Computer orientation skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in teams and independently
- Research skills to include reading large amounts of material and identifying key points
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Accurate data entry
- Circulation in OCLC WMS
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES
- Assist guests to the Museum & Library with their reference inquiries
- Respond to reference inquiries received by email and phone as assigned by mentor.
- Perform circulation for members as needed.
- Other staff research special projects supporting programming as needed
