Your Role and Responsibilities
START AND END DATES FOR THIS INTERNSHIP ARE DURING SUMMER 2021 (3 MONTHS)
The IBM CIO is searching for talented User Experience (UX) interns to join our CIO Design team in providing IBMers with a great User Experience for our internal solutions. User experience designer Interns create human-centered experiences by designing the structural and informational foundation for products, services, and systems. They facilitate the delivery of all elements, interactions, and decisions that add value to the total user experience.
In this role, you will be responsible for tasks associated with user experience design on both large and small scale solutions. You will work closely with stakeholders, other talented design professionals, and others in a multidisciplinary team to design web and mobile solutions.
  • Work with stakeholders and others as part of a multidisciplinary team to define requirements and design the solution, depending on the project
  • Work with user researchers to gain an understanding of user tasks, integrating these findings with business requirements to design the user interface
  • Tease out the important characteristics of users, their environments, and work tasks to drive an intuitive experience
  • Work with Visual Designers to create delightful and elegant User Experiences
  • Develop user profiles, usability requirements, use cases and scenarios to articulate the solution experience
  • Design intuitive and simple user interfaces for web and mobile solutions, producing journey maps, storyboards, mockups, and conceptual models
  • Iteratively prototype designs using research insights and user feedback
  • Leverage experience in prototype tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure, Zeplin, Abstract, and InVision
  • Display teamwork and persuasive interpersonal communications skills
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Interpreting research insights and building understanding of users and context
  • Defining user experience goals and design principles
  • Applying knowledge of psychological and physical attributes of humans (e.g. Hick's Law, Fitt's Law)
  • Designing the architecture of the functions and information of the experience
  • Designing the interaction patterns between functions/information and users/customers
  • Designing pathways of navigation through an experience; demonstrating understanding of content, functions, and relationships within the system
  • Supporting and planning for variation of user contexts (e.g. culture, environment, and activity)
  • Converging and translating technological, operational, and functional constraints into human-centered opportunities
  • Facilitating and designing for the relational aspects across every part of the experience
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Experience or familiarity with designing for accessibility standards
  • Familiarity with design systems
  • Degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Information Architecture, or related field
