MCA Internship: Photo Archives - Summer 2019
The Photo Archives intern splits time between processing materials from the MCA’s physical photo archive and working with its photographer to capture institutional photography, including images of collection pieces, exhibition installations, product photography, and portraiture. When working with archival photographic materials documenting the MCA’s institutional history, interns are responsible for handling and digitizing slides and negatives in various formats, and processing raw scans with Photoshop in order to produce web-ready images. One day a week, interns shadow the MCA’s photographer and learn the process of capturing images for print and archival purposes. The internship introduces interns to museum standards and best practices in maintaining a photo archive, as well as digital archiving and capturing methods. Candidates should have demonstrated experience with traditional and digital photography, as well as a background in contemporary art history.
