PR Intern (Bilingual- Spanish Speaking)

**Candidates must be bilingual (English/Spanish)** 

In Cook County, the County Treasurer oversees the second-largest property tax collection and distribution system in the United States. The Treasurer's office collects over $12 billion in taxes from over 1.8 million parcel of land, and distributes those monies to over 2,200 taxing bodies, such as municipalities, schools, libraries, law enforcement offices, which rely on the funds for their day-to-day operations. 

The real estate property tax is generated as a result of an intricate and complex system of laws, calculations, and the work of a number of governmental bodies and offices. The Treasurer's Office, in addition to collection and distribution of taxes, handles many other related functions. It plays an integral role in, for example, refunds, bankruptcies, condemnations, tax objections and exemptions. It plays a special role in programs arising out of other governmental bodies, such as senior tax deferral and federal forfeiture. It runs the annual and scavenger tax sales, participated in by buyers from across the country.

 An intern for the Cook County Treasurer's Office will be exposed to the challenging office work that is in demand by law firms, accounting firms, public relations/media groups, and governmental bodies. In addition to the work, the times in the office are exciting, with the Treasurer pushing the Cook County envelope on automation and increased efficiency in handling its functions.

An intern will be supervised by and work directly with the Treasurer's staff assisting with a wide range of functions/responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

Events and Marketing

Assist with event planning and meeting logistics
Respond to incoming inquiries about upcoming events or meetings
Assist in writing and proofreading marketing materials, social media posts, and emails
 

Community Outreach

Assist staff in developing and implementing community outreach plans
Outreach Material distribution at neighborhood events
Assist with Outreach at Tax Information events
 

Administration

Answer phone calls/emails, and other administrative tasks as needed
Make outreach calls to schedule events, gather information. 
Maintain and update contact database
Assist in execution of special projects and tasks
Coordinate equipment and supply needs for outreach team
