EAU CLAIRE CHILDREN’S THEATRE, INC.

The Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is a non-profit, volunteer-driven community theatre providing quality theatrical and educational experiences for western Wisconsin residents of all ages. Founded in 1989, the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is in its 34th season this spring. ECCT has four main areas of programming-
1.mainstage productions of major Broadway musicals
2.school matinees of shows based on award-winning children’s literature
3.touring productions
4.summer theatre classes

Each season ECCT produces 16 shows along with a variety of special events, at three main venues- the new $60 million dollar Pablo Center at the Confluence (1200 seat RCU Theatre and 400 seat JAMF Theatre) and the 275 seat theatre owned by ECCT, The Oxford. With annual attendance of 30,000-32,000 patrons and an annual budget of over $550,000, the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is one of the largest community theatres in western Wisconsin and one of only a handful of children’s theatres in the state, serving both youth and adult performers.

Typically our full and part-time paid staffing consists of the following positions:

Costume Interns (1 )
Part-time Costume Shop Manager
Part-time Promotions and Special Events

POSITION TITLE: COSTUMER
The Costumer, a full-time permanent position, will start as early as June 1 but no later than August 1, 2023. This person is responsible, in collaboration with the Costume Shop Manager, for the leadership, coordination and planning of day-to-day operations of the costume shop.

The Costumer is responsible for all aspects of costume design execution including simple renderings based on conversations and research, determining the specifications and build schedules for these designs, and management of costume shop staff. This person is responsible for establishing and meeting construction and fitting deadlines, attends dress rehearsals and works with staff to meet artistic goals. This individual oversees the creation of all costumes and all facets of the construction process for the costume as well as alterations, fittings and maintenance of pulled or rented clothing items.

I. POSITION OBJECTIVES
To provide excellent and inspired creative and management direction for the ECCT Costume Shop for all ECCT productions.

II. POSITION CHARACTERISTICS
Recruited by: Executive Director
Annual Salary: $34,000-$38,000 BOE based on average of 40+ hours/week
Schedule: Schedule will flex between daytime, evening and weekend hours depending on the ECCT production schedule

III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: Costume Shop Manager, Interns
Coordinates with: Technical crew heads, Associate Director

IV. PREFERRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum BA/BS in Theatre Arts, Costume Design or Technology, Fashion Design or Merchandising or related field
• 1-2 years professional experience in similar position desired
• Mastery of costume construction, fabrication techniques; knowledge of cutting, draping and patterning, costume and fashion history
• Wig styling and makeup experience a plus
• Excellent inter-personal, organizational, collaborative, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines in a fast paced, high pressure environment
• Working knowledge of all aspects of theatre production
• Costume design experience to support design responsibilities
• Valid driver's license needed
• Physical abilities needed include- climbing stairs and ladders, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., twist/bend/reach for work overhead, tolerate exposure to common laundry chemicals and variations in indoor temperature

V. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND SAMPLE TASKS
• In collaboration with the Costume Shop Manager, schedules work-weeks, delegates specific show assignments, sets and maintains deadlines, establish long term planning for the costume shop.
• Provides leadership, coordination and planning of day-to-day operations of the costume shop.
• Operates shop equipment (domestic and industrial sewing machines, sergers, irons, steamers)
• Performs a variety of hand sewing, construction, machine sewing, alteration and quick rigging techniques
• Possesses basic hair, wig maintenance and make-up skills
• Has basic craft skills
• Construction and alteration of all costumes
• Schedules fittings
• Attends rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and crew view performances to take costume notes
• Other duties as assigned
