What I liked

I enjoyed being able to work for a wonderful company. Disney provided most of your daily needs, and the pay provided for the rest. I was able to participate in a fun and exciting work place while sharing the Disney magic.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have done the Fall program. I enjoyed the hustle and bustle of my job, but I wish that I could have been there during the Holiday time.

Advice

If you have debated participating in the Disney College Program, do it. I have been asked about my time at Disney before any of my other job experiences. The overall knowledge you learn while working for the company is huge. I have been able to apply many things to my current life back at UA.

What I liked

I completely enjoy helping the ITeam solve cases, and investigate new stories. I was able to work at the Miss North America. I will also be in the Christmas Parade.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have the option to work there everyday.

Advice

I will say, always be ready for anything. You never know what you have to research, what the assignment will be for the day. I will say be mindful of what is happening in the news.

What I liked

I liked the experience of working for a Fortune 500 company and getting to learn the company's core values and how to train their employees. I also liked that my job was important and made a difference in people's lives everyday.

What I wish was different

I wish the leadership was more understanding and not as demanding as they were. I also think that we deserved more breaks than we we're getting because of the demand on our bodies and mental health from this job.

Advice

Advice I would give for anyone with this job is to be comfortable in their skills they learn from training and try to make it fun and different every time you work because it is extremely repetitive. I would also be ready to work outside for all hours and be able to engage in physical activity for very long periods of time.

Sales and Marketing

June 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

Great brand name; great networking opportunities; and many potential openings.

What I wish was different

Work could have more time for strategic projects; recruiting unfortunately is not on a set schedule, but on an "as needed" basis

Advice

Network as much as possible with people and places you'd be interested in. Disney is such a large company it's hard to find something you would enjoy without some guidance from insiders.

What I liked

I got to work at Walt Disney world all summer, it was great. I was part of an opening team of Star Wars galaxys edge and got to experience meeting many different imagineers. Everyone at work is so friendly and it’s a great environment to work in.

What I wish was different

I wish I had worked in other parks at different shops more often. With my role in merchandise at Disney, I am able to pick up shifts at other locations than my own and work there for the day. I also wish I had networked a bit more.

Advice

It’s so much fun. You are surrounded by everyone who loves Disney and is always happy. This experience is also a great resume booster so I would recommend it for anyone.

Food and Beverage Hostess

May 2018 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

That I got an upward promotion to be a trainer, it was in a relaxed atmosphere, and I made a ton of friends who I still talk to this day

What I wish was different

More manager presence, explanation of new things coming out, and a team day where we all get together as cast members and build trust with one another

Advice

To go in with your head held high. The food and beverage industry might be scary at first but don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it

Recreation Trainer

January - August 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

I had the chance to work with such a diverse group of individuals from across the globe, and I learned so much. I had the privilege to explore a variety of locations, and I was encouraged to ask questions. I learned so much about myself and how Disney is able to run such a successful business.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed there longer, but I decided I needed to finish school before I return.

Advice

Be open to new ideas and don't be afraid to try out your own. They won't always work out, but regardless you will learn so much that will transfer to the next project.

Attractions Operations Cast Member

What I liked

I loved having the opportunity to work for a widely known company in experience sector of the economy. It was very eye-opening to go through new-hire orientation and learn about the focus and vision of the Walt Disney Company. It made me realize the key values that make it such a successful company. I loved my coworkers and leaders, and my overall experience was amazing! Another perk was getting to go to the parks for free on my days off.

What I wish was different

I wish the housing and bus system had been a little more accommodating. Other than that, it was great.

Advice

My best advice is to have a positive attitude with everything. It can be a difficult adjustment moving to a new place where you don't know anyone. It can also be hard to deal with guests that are rude or disrespectful. However, if you have the right attitude, you will have the time of your life!

What I liked

I really enjoyed the experience of learning about hospitality hands on with new guest every day. It was fun seeing all the families enjoying their time here and knowing that I had power to make their experience unique from others by making their time special.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have experienced various roles throughout the company instead of just staying as food and beverage at magic kingdom.

Advice

I recommend that people go out and try it! It’s just one semester and you get to learn so much hands on from the company. Do not be afraid to go out of your comfort zone.

Attractions hostess

May 2019 • Anaheim, CA

What I liked

The job involved lots of working directly with guests. There’s a great training process as well as very helpful people working with you while you figure it out.

What I wish was different

The application process took a while. It was about a month in between submitting my application and moving forward with the process.

Advice

Be ready to talk to a lot of people including very angry and disappointed people. Don’t take what they say too personally.

Park Greeter

January - May 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

Working for the Disney company was a dream, and I had so many unique experiences that made me a more confident and marketable person. I’ll never forget the people I met, the experiences I had, and the things I learned. I participated in the Disney College Program, which I recommend to anyone who wants to learn about or climb the ladder of the company.

What I wish was different

The program is very demanding, and participants don’t have much — if any — control over their schedules. Also, the role that you are offered is the only role you can take in the company. I do wish I had more say in what role I would have liked.

Advice

Don’t take it for granted, but also don’t expect a semester-long vacation. The time flies and you have so much fun, but also the basis of the program is very hard work in sometimes unfavorable conditions. Go in with the expectation of an entry-level job with part- to full-time hours.
