We had an idea that would solve a problem, be fun, be social, and, when it boils down to it, make people happy. We wanted to change the entire online shopping experience.
We watched our friends oooh and aaah over each other's dresses and tops and the same question always came up: "Where did you get that?!" Nothing stung quite like hearing her say that she got it at some precious boutique while she was away on vacation. I mean, what if we never travel across the country to shop at such-and-such boutique? How will we ever get that to-die-for maxi?! So, we got to thinking: what if we could sell fabulous pieces of clothing to all of the fashionistas online? Everyone we knew had a computer, at least two email addresses, and social media was king. If you didn't have a Facebook, you were either making a statement by not having one, or you were seriously out of the loop. The idea was there… the only thing missing was a name. We were sitting around one night brainstorming names and talking about the site and we were stumped. We were throwing out all types of adjectives and nouns in an attempt to define our company, our customer, and our experience. It all kept coming back to one word… class. By definition, class is "showing stylish excellence," and that is what we intended to do in all aspects of our business. That's when we saw it. On the desk, next to the monitor, behind the mouse, and beside the lamp was a pen cup of unpolished sterling silver. In its former life, in all of its glory, it was the true symbol of the highest class: the Mint Julep. That was it! The Mint Julep Boutique, our window of opportunity to change online shopping for the better.
With an idea, a plan and a name, we had everything we needed. We launched on July 2, 2012, and so began the most incredible journey of our lives. Our unprecedented growth, our social media following, and our loyal customers have humbled us, and we have come to think of y'all as friends rather than fans of our site. We have to pinch ourselves every day to believe any of this is real!
